Biography:
From the moment she was born, Jia's parents had high expectations for her. Both high-ranking business executives (with incredibly busy schedules), they hired nannies and private tutors for Jia, and enrolled her in the best private academies when it came time for her to attend school. For her own part, Jia worked hard to make her parents proud, and was an exceptional student, earning high marks and praise from her instructors. And for a while, this seemed to be enough.

Sometime in middle school, however, as her academic competition became significantly fiercer and parental pressure correspondingly grew stronger, Jia suffered a breakdown. She realized that,
although she was not sure what she wanted to achieve in life, she was not interested in becoming a businesswoman, as was her parents' wish. Her requests (and later, pleas) to explore other interests fell on deaf ears, as Jia's parents did not want her getting "distracted" from her studies. Feeling unhappy and trapped as she entered high school, Jia began to act out, and her grades slipped drastically. While her behavior was fairly tame compared to that of other rebellious teenagers, the change nonetheless shocked and dismayed her parents, and they could not understand the reasons for it. After they responded by clamping down even harder on Jia, they came home one day to find her gone and a note on the dining room table.

It took the police about two weeks to find her, right around the time her parents received the news that they were to be transferred to the company's Seoul headquarters. The night of her return, the whole family sat down for a long heart-to-heart conversation. As a result of the discussion, Jia's parents agreed to allow her more free time and extracurricular activities, while Jia promised to improve her behavior and pull her grades back up, and the family relocated to Seoul hoping for a fresh start.

For the most part, things did get better. Despite the challenges that came with learning a new language and new culture, Jia became an A student once again, and true to their word, her parents allowed her more freedom to do the things she liked, so long as she kept her grades up. Jia joined a dance group, tried to catch up on television shows and video games, and was even permitted to get a pet cat. When it came time to apply for college, Jia sent out a number of applications and received acceptances from all of the schools, but finally decided on Yonsei University, rushing for Kappa Delta in her freshman year. Amidst all the uncertainty and doubt that surrounded her life, joining the sorority was one decision she never regretted, as she found a strong and supportive sisterhood on which she could depend, and with which she could share both the good times and the bad.
